loved their authentic Japanese recipe and enjoyed the foods so much. But I was not comfortable with the restroom here which is unisex

My husband and I love Hayama, been eating here for years, good food, friendly staff, casual and comfortable place to eat. Will be back again and again and again...

Good Japanese food but no sushi.

The food was really good authentic Japanese cooking, unfortunately due to the pandemic they will be closing tomorrow August 15th.

AMAZING, fresh sashimi dinner! It included tempura, miso soup, tofu side dish, and small veggie sides. We started with yellowtail collar as an appetizer - scrumptious! This is a Kona gem for sure.

Best authentic Japanese fair on the Big Island...wish we would have found it earlier in our 2 weeks here so we could have eaten here more often.Wait staff fantastic... food exceptional...prices very fair.

Great food! Ordered the special for two. Miso soup was on point, fish was fresh and sushi was delicious.

Smaller sized place hidden away in a shopping plaza with great sushi! I absolutely recommend the volcano roll. It was served hot and was different than any roll I've had before. A great find.

Perfect for lunch

Delicious fresh sushi at reasonable prices! Loved the mackerel and scallop nigiri as well as a few different rolls. Staff was very warm and friendly, quick and a clean place - an all around great experience.Went back in April 2018 and no more Sushi....arghhh!!! But the traditional Japanese dishes were still very good.

Absolutely perfect. The sashimi is some of the best I have had on island. The staff was the most friendly and happy. Always nice to go into a place that you feel most welcome in. It is a quaint small place, looks great and is very very clean. I will be back to try more of the menu! I highly suggest everyone give it a try!

Hayama is delicious Japanese food! One of our favorite places to eat that is quiet, clean, and where the service is amazing! Highly recommend the miso butterfish

DOES NOT HAVE SUSHI!! Came here for sushi and was disappointed to discover they no longer serve sushi. Beautiful traditional Japanese style dishes though, a little pricey In my opinion, but you recieve a full traditional meal.

This is my second time went to this Japanese restaurant, I ordered the sashimi dinner set which is same as last time, $35for one set, it has four different kinds of fish and squids, shrimp tempuras vege tempura and rice. But this time instead they just gave the fish the sashimi, nothing else I ask why, and they said that it s better quality of fish. And the price still the same. After we finish eating and got the bill, I was shocked by that they put the tips in the bill which is over 16%of the tips, they have no service at all , they don't even filled the ice water for us, this is the worse Japanese restaurant i had been to.

Excellent true japanese cuisine ! You should try. It is not in the greatest area but I strongly recommend for those who like to feel the taste of japan !!

We got the love boat and everything was delicious and crafted with care. The miso broth was definitely not store bought. Good place to eat, we left nothing behind on the boat :)

The service is excellent and the food is fresh and well prepared. The presentation was also wonderful. The best in town.

Great food! Had the “Love Boat” for 2. Tempura veggies and shrimp, teriyaki chicken and teriyaki beef cooked to perfection, and a Japanese speciality of fried tofu filled with rice. All served with a small salad, miso soup, and steamed rice. Very good food. Great service. This is one of those really great restaurants you read about hidden in a small strip mall. Don’t miss this one!

Really poor quality Japanese food for the price you pay. The set meal was embarrassing and teriyaki chicken and beef sauce tasted like it was from a bottle

Warning: Thus restaurant DOES NOT OFFER SUSHI. It says that they do on their website but they don’t have it anymore and have never updated their website. We walked way out of our way to eat here only to discover that they don’t even have sushi. We did t try their other food as this is what we came for. Beware.

The restaurant does not allow you to conduct business at your own table! The place was empty so it couldn’t be because we were taking up space. We both had lunch & never got more water or tea, and when we had to get a few documents signed, they told us no. The food was ok but I will never go back.

Friendly staff and good sushi! Wish the hours were longer but everything else is A+

We ate there before our flights home as hurricane Lane was hitting the big island. They had a limited menu thanks to their suppliers closing down, but the tempura and teriyaki were exactly what we wanted.
